Castaneda changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Bates fights it off and pushes away nicely.

and Castaneda counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Castaneda tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Bates just stands there and leans against the cage.
Castaneda has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Bates is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rodolfo Castaneda. That's going to take a lot out of him.#TD2#
Bates has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Castaneda is trying to keep an underhook but Bates manages to get the takedown into half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Castaneda has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Castaneda has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Bates's body.
Castaneda seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Bates for as long as he can get away with.

Bates is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Castaneda off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Castaneda is working for a rear naked choke. Bates is not defending it well and Castaneda has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Bates refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Bates's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!
