Black fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but St Pierre avoids it really well and circles away.#TD2# Black closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into St Pierre's guard. St Pierre wants to get back to his feet but Black is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Black wants to control from the top but St Pierre keeps moving. Black with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Black postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! St Pierre is sent reeling backwards by a solid uppercut. He barely regains his balance and Black moves in for the kill throwing a continuous barrage of punches that force the ref to step in.

#R1##TD2# St Pierre looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Cortez has a closed guard, preventing St Pierre from standing up. St Pierre stays in close to Cortez's body and controls the position. St Pierre throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cortez works some decent striking defense from the bottom. St Pierre stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cortez swivels though and keeps the full guard. Cortez looking for a sweep. Not yet Cortez, not yet. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. St Pierre in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. St Pierre controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. St Pierre passes Cortez's left leg - he's now in half guard. #T1# Cortez is trying to stand back up but St Pierre is controlling him

Cortez lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as St Pierre backs up against the cage.

That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Cortez tries to score a power double leg takedown but St Pierre sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Cortez somewhat.
