We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Riggs has his hands on Verhoeven's head, controlling the position. Verhoeven wanted to stand there but Riggs had control of the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Verhoeven wants to stand but Riggs is controlling his posture from full guard. Riggs throws a hook to the side of Verhoeven's head but Verhoeven sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Verhoeven on the wrong end of a nice jab. Riggs pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Horrible takedown attempt by Riggs or perhaps it was just good defense by Verhoeven, which made it look bad. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Benedict Riggs. That's going to take a lot out of him.#T4# Riggs shoots in for a double leg but Verhoeven sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Verhoeven defending well as Riggs loads up on a big left hand. Riggs missing with a left hand there. Verhoeven was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. #R1# Verhoeven tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ross swats him away and circles back towards the center. Verhoeven throws a sloppy head kick and Ross moves out of range easily. Ross throws a right and a left that Verhoeven avoids nicely. Verhoeven scores with a head kick. Ross tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time. Verhoeven connects with an inside leg kick. Verhoeven digs a good body shot into Ross's ribs. Verhoeven misses with a head kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ross throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Verhoeven. That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Ross crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Verhoeven - the referee stops the clock and Ross gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Verhoeven. Ross manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. Verhoeven tries to clinch but fails miserably and Ross counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Ross fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Verhoeven looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.#T1# Verhoeven tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Ross looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. James Ross is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Ross dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Verhoeven doesn't manage to clinch there - Ross circles away.

Ross is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range. Verhoeven ducks under a wild hook from Ross. Ross connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Ross lands with a hook. Verhoeven tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. #T3# Verhoeven takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
