Eito Itasaki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Scevola pivots, looking for a leg kick but Itasaki is out of range and Scevola settles back down. Scevola looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Itasaki throws a half hearted mid kick. Scevola flicks out a counter leg kick but Itasaki steps away. Scevola chopping away at his opponent's legs.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Scevola has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Itasaki checks a leg kick. Itasaki tries to close the distance and clinch up but Scevola swats him away and circles back towards the center. Scevola appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body. Itasaki misses with a body kick. Scevola swats away the attempt to clinch by Itasaki. Scevola with a body punch. A glancing blow. Itasaki tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Scevola manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Itasaki throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Scevola has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Scevola and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Scevola throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. A head kick misses from Itasaki. That was a bit too telegraphed. Scevola let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land. Itasaki fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. Itasaki fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Myres. Myres misses with a hook. Itasaki looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Itasaki tries to land a front kick but Myres steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Myres bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Itasaki's head. Myres swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
