#R1##TD2# Richards closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Poels did well to prevent Richards getting side control. Richards lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. #CUT2# It looks like Walt Poels has been cut. Poels is trying to maintain the position but Richards is very close to passing his half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Richards drops an elbow to the side of Poels's head. #CUT2# Walt Poels's cut is getting worse. Richards slows the pace down in half guard. Nice strikes from Richards there. #CUT2# Walt Poels's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it. Poels knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Richards on the ground. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Richards not doing much here.
Poels is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. #T1# Still in half guard, Richards seems content to control. Richards has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Poels is trying to get back to full guard. Nice strikes from Richards there. #CUT2# Jeez, Walt Poels's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Walt Poels's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Raymond Richards!
