Russo shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Karhu sprawls well. Karhu wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Russo gets slowly back to his feet.
Russo gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Karhu counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Russo moves out of range as Karhu strikes.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for De Lima Russo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Karhu dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Russo tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Karhu just stands there and leans against the cage.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Karhu lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Russo or not.

Russo tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Karhu just leaning against Russo, taking a breather.
The referee calls for Karhu to work.
Karhu unloads with a big right hand that wobbles Russo! He's leaning against the cage trying to keep his feet but Karhu is unloading with more strikes now! Russo drops to his knees and the referee stops the fight for a TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:14 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kari Karhu!

Licker keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Russo tries to score a power double leg takedown but Licker sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Russo somewhat.
A nice side step and Licker releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.#TD#
Russo looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Licker!#SUB#
Russo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Russo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Russo wants to control but Licker is keeping him busy.

Russo has hold of Licker's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Licker seems comfortable defending it but Russo has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Licker is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Licker is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Russo couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:09 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). De Lima Russo!
De Lima Russo decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
