Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Charles misses with a takedown so Matthes counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Matthes shoots in but no luck this time. Manning clinches up with Matthes and pushes him back against the cage. Matthes stops a takedown attempt from Manning.

Manning changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Matthes fights it off and pushes away nicely.

He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Manning has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Matthes seems to be working for a kimura but Manning defends the submission attempt. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Matthes is looking to take a break and control but Manning is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that's the end of the fight! As we have tied on points, we go to a tie breaker and Matthes gets a bonus point for attempting more subs. Matthes wins on points by 5 to 4. After the fight, Mike Matthes was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly. |

Matthes drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Grena defends it well. Matthes defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Grena. Matthes with the counter takedown but Grena avoids it easily. Matthes takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. No luck for Grena with that takedown attempt. Matthes postures up and lands a big shot to Gomez's brow. Gomez doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Matthes wants to control from the top but Gomez keeps moving. Matthes knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gomez on the ground. Barath tries to close the distance and clinch but Matthes swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Matthes half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Barath fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Chris Barath seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.#TD# Matthes shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Matthes was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
