#R1# Mendez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sol X circles away.#TD# Sol X scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.#SUB# Sol X tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Sol X taking a breather here. Mendez is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Sol X's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mendez tries to roll over but Sol X keeps him under control.#T1# Mendez slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Sol X wants to control from the top but Mendez keeps moving. #SU# Sol X decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Sol X throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mendez's waist but Mendez gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sol X off to one side. Mendez displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sol X. Sol X wants to clinch. Mendez fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.#T2# Mendez darts in looking for a takedown but Sol X gets double underhooks and turns Mendez into the cage. YB Sol X has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paulo Mendez.#CL2# Mendez clinches with his opponent.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. #BC2# Mendez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Sol X ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mendez moves away. Sol X circles away from the clinch attempt.
Sol X tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mendez swivels and escapes. Mendez steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Sol X. Mendez misses with a head kick.
Mendez moves in looking to clinch but Sol X pushes him off. Sol X throwing a counter right hand but Mendez manages to avoid it. Mendez misses with a two punch combination.
Sol X stuffs the takedown. Mendez on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Sol X. Sol X obviously looking to wear him down.
#T3# Sol X has a takedown stuffed. A nice side step and Mendez releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.#CL2# Mendez pushes Sol X up against the cage in a clinch.#BC2# Mendez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.#TD# Mendez gets caught flat footed, as Sol X shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Sol X postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Mendez tries to land a sweep but no joy. Mendez is looking to stand up but Sol X isn't so interested in that idea. Sol X trying to control the position from guard on top but Mendez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. #T4# Mendez is controlling Sol X's posture. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.#SUB2# Mendez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sol X can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Mendez bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sol X's guard. #REVB# Sol X is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Sol X looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Mendez wants to control from the top but Sol X keeps moving. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Paulo Mendez dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. #R2# Mendez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sol X sprawls well. Sol X wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mendez gets slowly back to his feet.#TD2# Mendez bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Sol X tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck. Mendez has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Mendez raining down shots from the mount! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mendez connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Mendez postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Sol X looks a forlorn figure.
Sol X tries to control the position but Mendez now has his back.
#T1# Sol X really must keep his cool here. He's controlling one of Mendez's hands and whilst he does that, he's got a chance of escaping the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.#SUB2# Mendez looking for the choke from the back. Mendez tries to keep control of the position but Sol X is staying busy.#SUB2# Mendez has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Sol X is defending well but eventually Mendez manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Sol X has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!
