#R1# Myres works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Rob Myres seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Myres looks to land a combination but Alonso avoids it well. Alonso tries to counter with a clinch but Myres shakes him off and moves away. Myres misses with an uppercut. Alonso saw that one coming. Myres misses with a jab, cross combination.
Myres connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Alonso's hands. Alonso shoots in for a double leg but Myres sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Myres cracks Alonso with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Alonso misses with a hook. Myres was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Alonso is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Myres throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Alonso's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Myres dives in looking to finish as Alonso flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Myres's strikes! Myres is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Alonso's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Alonso was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Velasquez can do anything to dispel that myth. Velasquez is working to get back to half guard.

Caballero changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Alonso tries to avoid it but Caballero manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Alonso to the ground. Alonso escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Caballero fails with the takedown and Alonso counters with a nice body shot. Alonso is looking to clinch. Caballero fails with a takedown attempt. As Caballero looks to move away, Alonso throws a big counter combo but Caballero just gets out of the way. Xabilonso Alonso has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sonny Caballero. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Caballero looks to land a combination but Alonso avoids it well. Alonso finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

That sent Crane stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Good leg kick by Alonso there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
