#R1# The fighters circling - Mason throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Mason attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. Padilla seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance. A low kick from Padilla is predictable there #TD2# and Mason counters with a shoot takedown. Padilla fights it but they end up in guard. Padilla pulls Mason in to control the position. Mason must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Mason controlling from the top position. Padilla has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mason is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.#T1# Mason trying to control the position from guard on top but Padilla is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.#REF3# The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Mason throws a leg kick that is checked and Padilla counters with a three punch combo that has Mason backing up. Mason nods at Padilla to acknowledge the strikes. Padilla really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.#CL2# Mason moves into the clinch successfully.
Mason tries to pull guard but Padilla forces him back to his feet, against the cage.#BC2# Mason pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Padilla with a lazy takedown attempt and Mason counters with a stiff right hand. #CL2# Mason forces Padilla back against the cage and clinches.#TD2# Mason ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Mason no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mason can do anything to dispel that myth. Mason is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Padilla content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. #T2# Padilla wants to control from the top but Mason keeps moving. Padilla seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Mason tries to land a sweep but no joy. Mason utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Mason bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Padilla's guard. #REVB# Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! It's preventing any offense from Mason, at least for the moment.#T3# Padilla keeping moving, preventing Mason from controlling successfully. Mason controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Padilla will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Mason is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Mason throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Padilla sees it coming and avoids it easily.#TD2# Padilla tries to sprawl but Mason drives through with a takedown into half guard. Mason wants to lay and pray for a moment but Padilla keeps working. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mason is pressing down on Padilla's thigh, looking to free his foot. Padilla is holding on for now. Mason seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Padilla is refusing to be controlled, as Mason sits in half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kenny Mason dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. #R2# Padilla pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Mason let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.#CL2# Mason moves into the clinch. Mason with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Padilla is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. #SUB# Mason is sitting in close to Padilla's body. Padilla has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Mason is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Mason is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Padilla.
