He's got his arms around Jones's waist but Jones gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Howard Taft off to one side. #CL# Jones closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Jones lands an elbow just above Howard Taft 's eye. Howard Taft prevents a body shot from Jones. Howard Taft trying to stall but Jones improves his position.
Howard Taft jumps guard but Jones stands there with Howard Taft around his waist. Howard Taft gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
#TD2# Howard Taft pulls guard effortlessly. Jones wants to stand but Howard Taft has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Jones stops Howard Taft from standing up. Jones wants to stand and escape but instead Howard Taft has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. #REVB# Jones is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Howard Taft is controlling him. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jones is looking to stand back up but Howard Taft counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Jones. Howard Taft uses his free foot to push down on Jones's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Jones. Howard Taft looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

#R1##TD# Portman gets caught flat footed, as Howard Taft shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Howard Taft controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Portman has momentary wrist control but Howard Taft slips an elbow through the middle. Howard Taft forces his way into half guard. Howard Taft tries to pass to full mount but Portman defends it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Portman punching from the bottom.

#T1# Howard Taft performing his best blanket impression for a moment. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Howard Taft slips a nice elbow through Portman's hands, connecting with Portman's forehead. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. #T4# Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Howard Taft performing his best blanket impression for a moment. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Howard Taft connects with a nice short shot to Portman's temple.
