#R1# Suarez shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Whitaker defends it nicely. Whitaker looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Whitaker takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Whitaker went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.#CL2# Suarez fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Whitaker, pushing him back against the cage.#TD# Whitaker pulls guard successfully.
Whitaker is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Suarez is controlling him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Suarez looking to pass the guard. #SUB2# Suarez drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Suarez jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. #T1# Whitaker is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Whitaker looking for a sweep. Not yet Whitaker, not yet. #SUB# Whitaker is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Whitaker is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Suarez pushing down on Whitaker's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Whitaker tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. Suarez trying to control the action but Whitaker is working from the bottom. Whitaker trying to control from the bottom.
#T2# A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.#ES# Whitaker kicks Suarez off and gets back to his feet. Whitaker throws a series of punches but Suarez moves out of range. Suarez tries to counter by closing the distance. Suarez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Whitaker tries to avoid it but Suarez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Whitaker to the ground. Whitaker escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. #TD# Suarez tries to sprawl but Whitaker drives through with a takedown into half guard.#ES2# Suarez manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Whitaker keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage. #TD# Whitaker is trying to trip Suarez. He has hold of a leg but Suarez is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Whitaker persists though and gets the takedown into guard.#ES2# Suarez manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Whitaker is breathing heavily. Suarez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Whitaker swivels and escapes. Whitaker went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Manuel Whitaker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Miguel Suarez. Whitaker stuffs the takedown attempt from Suarez. Suarez gets slowly back to his feet. #T3# Whitaker tries to clinch but Suarez moves out of range. Suarez feints the counter takedown. Suarez shoots in for a takedown but Whitaker shows good takedown defense. Suarez throws a right and a left that both miss. Suarez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Whitaker sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Suarez somewhat. Whitaker throws a big counter combination but Suarez scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Whitaker feints a jab promting Suarez to slip. Whitaker then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Suarez slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.#T4# Whitaker throws a right and a left that Suarez avoids nicely. #TD# Whitaker is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Suarez's half guard. Suarez wants to get back to full guard. Whitaker thows a huge punch but Suarez dodges it nicely.
Whitaker landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Whitaker missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Whitaker throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Suarez moves into full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Manuel Whitaker will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! #R2##CL2# Suarez closes the distance and clinches. Suarez jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Whitaker walks away with a smile on his face. Suarez gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. A combination from Whitaker does no damage. #CL2# Suarez has taken the fight to the clinch.
#TD# Whitaker jumps guard and drags Suarez to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Suarez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Whitaker swivels though and keeps the full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Whitaker pulls Suarez in close to prevent any damage. Suarez is stalling in the full guard. #T1# Suarez wants to control from the top but Whitaker keeps moving. #SUB# Suarez looking to improve position, pressing down on Whitaker's thigh with his hand. Whitaker seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Suarez paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Suarez's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Whitaker picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!
