Gavin is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Gavin is struggling to control the position. Gavin prevents a takedown attempt there.
Gavin jumps guard but Morningstar stands there with Gavin around his waist. Gavin gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gavin tries to work over Morningstar's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Gavin scores with a shoulder strike. Morningstar's coach down at Island Top Team was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Morningstar's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. A bit of stalling here from Gavin.
#TD2# Morningstar has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Gavin is trying to keep an underhook but Morningstar manages to get the takedown into half guard. Morningstar working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.#T1# Gavin looks like he's trying to stand up.
Morningstar passes the guard and advances to mount! Gavin is squirming around, avoiding Morningstar's attempts to control the action. Morningstar scores with a couple of good head shots there.

He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Morningstar takes a little breather and maintains the position. Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Gene Morningstar! Gene Morningstar decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
