Bjarnason fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Laponov avoids it really well and circles away. Laponov has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Bjarnason is trying hard to land a takedown here. Laponov sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ragnar Bjarnason. That's going to take a lot out of him. Laponov misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

We've been hearing reports that Sands has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.#CL# Sands clinches up against the cage. Ahmad looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!#TD# A momentary lapse in concentration from Ahmad enables Bjarnason to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ahmad manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Bjarnason seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Ahmad really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bjarnason.
