#R1# Shuman dives in for a single leg takedown but Paine sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Shuman uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Paine. Shuman moves out of range as Paine strikes. Paine scores with a hook to the body. Shuman takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Shuman misses with a right hand #CL2# and Paine counters by clinching up. Paine tries to work over Shuman's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Shuman tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Paine tries a body shot but Shuman blocks it.
A short left from Paine. Paine lands a nice uppercut. Paine fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Paine cracks Shuman with a nice body shot. Shuman has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Paine after a bit of a struggle. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Shuman. That's going to take a lot out of him. Paine working some nice short punches in the clinch. Paine gets through Shuman's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Paine misses with a hook from the clinch. #T1# A short right from Paine. I was talking to Shuman's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Paine misses with some punches.
Paine lands on the inside with an uppercut. Still in the clinch, Paine scores with a nice short uppercut. Paine lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Shuman backwards. Shuman drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Paine gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Shuman is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Paine lands with a left to the head. Shuman dodges an elbow strike from Paine.
Paine lands with a right to the head. A quick uppercut on the inside from Paine. Paine throws a punch but it's blocked by Shuman. This has been an exciting period of action! Paine lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Shuman backwards. #T2# Shuman looking for a takedown. Paine tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Shuman's elbow. Paine throws a head punch that misses. Paine scores with a hook to the body. Paine swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Shuman has had enough of the clinch but Paine keeps him there for the moment. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Paine. Paine digs a right hand into Shuman's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Shuman's gas tank. Paine scores with a shoulder strike. Paine makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Paine tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Paine throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Shumans head. #ROC2# Shuman is rocked! Shuman drops down looking for an ankle pick but Paine pulls his leg out and moves away.
Michael Paine seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Paine lands a slapping body shot.
Paine has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.#T3# Shuman moves out of range as Paine strikes. Paine dips to his left and cracks Shuman with an uppercut! Paine's corner calls for a 1-2. Paine obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Oh Shuman is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Paine throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Shuman on the side of the head. Shuman walks straight into a right hand from Paine - that's dropped him! Paine jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Shuman from any more punishment! Shuman complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Michael Paine! Michael Paine seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.

KFC 7: Shuman vs San Diego

#R1# Shuman misses with a left hand and San Diego counters with a left to the body. Sloppy strikes from San Diego. Those never looked like landing. San Diego lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Shuman misses with a takedown attempt - San Diego sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Shuman takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Jab from San Diego. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shuman shoots in looking for a takedown but San Diego manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Shuman's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. San Diego stuffs the takedown. Shuman has been working on his balance at 3Band MMA ($500/week), so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by San Diego. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Shuman. That's going to take a lot out of him. Shuman shoots and misses and San Diego counters with a stiff right hand. #T1# Shuman takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. San Diego cracks Shuman on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Shuman falls backwards against the cage. San Diego follows up with more strikes that drop Shuman to his knees. San Diego keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Shuman! This one is all over!

#R1# Shuman takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Shuman throws out a token jab with nothing on it. A big right from Donaire misses. Shuman changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Shuman looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Donaire is fending him off so far but Shuman persists. Nope, Donaire circles away and we're back to standing. Shuman uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Donaire. Donaire lands a jab. Shuman fails with a takedown attempt. Donaire lands a nice shot that snaps Shuman's head back.
Shuman tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Donaire was well out of range. Poor timing from Shuman. Shuman swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Donaire counters with a straight right hand.#T1# Donaire scores with a jab to the body. Donaire lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

A lull in the action here as Shuman stalls from top position.#SUB# Shuman is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Donaire knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.#SUB# Shuman has an Americana. Donaire didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Shuman is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Shuman hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

#R1# Azevedo shoots in and drives through. Shuman sprawls well.#TD2# Shuman feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.#SUB# Azevedo throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Shuman is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Shuman gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Azevedo pulls Shuman in to control the position. Shuman seems content to control from guard here. Azevedo is looking for a sweep. Shuman cracks Azevedo with a big elbow. Shuman in side control, just content to control the action for now. Azevedo is positioning himself to get back to half guard. #T4# Azevedo takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Azevedo is being controlled here. Azevedo is looking to reverse the position. Azevedo is working hard here to advance position. Shuman wants to lay and pray for a moment but Azevedo keeps working. God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Azevedo is positioning himself to get back to half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Frank Shuman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Shuman was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Azevedo is looking to reverse the position. You can see the frustration on Azevedo's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Azevedo tries to bench press Shuman off him but Shuman keeps the position. Shuman takes a little break here. Azevedo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Shuman is one step ahead there. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Shuman's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Shuman content to stall in guard here. Azevedo manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Shuman manages to get himself to full guard.

#R1# Jones wants to clinch up but Shuman keeps it at a distance. Jones is looking to clinch. #TD2# Shuman fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Jones sprawls well initially but Shuman persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Jones scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Shuman manages to mount him!
Shuman is in the full mount, landing strikes. Jones is in all sorts of trouble here.
Shuman with a couple of short strikes. Jones blocking the ground and pound. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Jones is bucking up trying to escape but Shuman cracks him with another couple of good strikes.#SUB2# Shuman is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Jones can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
