#R1# Pittman misses with a takedown attempt #CL2# and Carruthers moves into the clinch. Pittman working Carruthers over with knees to the body. Pittman is trying to break free. Carruthers cracks Pittman with a nice body shot. Pittman lands with a light punch inside. Pittman wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Carruthers has him pressed against the cage.#TD2# Carruthers drags the fight down to the ground.
#SUB2# Carruthers had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Pittman defends it easily.#SU# Pittman gets to his feet - Carruthers follows without any prompting. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.#CL2# Carruthers moves into the clinch. Pittman tries to break the clinch but Carruthers is controlling the position. #TD2# Carruthers turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Pittman tries to bench press Carruthers off him but Carruthers keeps the position. #T1# Pittman seems a little lost for a moment, as Carruthers dominates the positioning. Carruthers looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Pittman is avoiding damage well.
#SU2# Carruthers has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Carruthers chopping away at his opponent's legs.
#TD2# Pittman gets caught napping as Carruthers dives in and scores a takedown. Pittman manages to retain guard.#ES# Pittman has his feet on Carruthers's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. #TD2# Carruthers looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Pittman wants to stand up but Carruthers is controlling him. Carruthers passes into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pittman misses with some strikes from the bottom.
#T2# Carruthers keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! It looks like Carruthers might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. The fighters are battling for position here. Pittman manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Pittman keeping moving, preventing Carruthers from controlling successfully. Pittman wants to stand but Carruthers is controlling the position. #SU2# Carruthers stands up and waves to Pittman to follow him. #TD2# Carruthers shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Pittman manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.#ES# Pittman uses the cage to get back to his feet.
#T3# Carruthers misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
#CL# Pittman clinches. #TD2# Carruthers has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Pittman uses from the top position. Pittman stopping the sweep attempt from Carruthers.#SUB2# Carruthers has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pittman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Carruthers looks winded!#SUB2# Carruthers is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Pittman is aware though and is defending well.#SUB2# Carruthers is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. #SU# Pittman gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. #T4# Carruthers avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Carruthers throws out a counter right but Pittman avoids it with no problem. Some wild striking there from Carruthers.
#TD# Pittman closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Carruthers tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Pittman sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Carruthers is squirming around, avoiding Pittman's attempts to control the action. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but James Carruthers will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! #R2##TD2# Carruthers shoots in and bounces Pittman off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.#SUB# Carruthers avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Pittman being controlled here, momentarily. Let's hope that Carruthers has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.#SUB# Pittman is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Carruthers frees his head nicely. Oh but Pittman has switched to an armbar! Carruthers is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
