#R1##CL2# The fight moves into the clinch position. Kirkland prevents Rekje from breaking the clinch. Kirkland could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Kirkland blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Rekje wants to break free but Kirkland has control.
#BC2# Rekje breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. #CL2# Rekje darts in and clinches Kirkland up against the cage. Rekje working hard to break the clinch.#TD# Kirkland drags the fight down to the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kirkland trying to control the position here. Rekje loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. #T1# Kirkland is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Kirkland has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Rekje wants to get up but he can't break Kirkland's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Kirkland pulls Rekje in close to prevent any damage. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rekje accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Kirkland looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rekje is one step ahead there. Kirkland is controlling Rekje's posture. Rekje tries to stand but Kirkland is controlling from the bottom. #REF3# The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.#T2# Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.#CL2# Rekje moves into the clinch. #TD2# Rekje is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Kirkland can't fight it off and eventually Rekje manages to take the fight to the floor. Kirkland looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Kirkland wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. Rekje pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kirkland is keeping the position for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.#T4# The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.#REF3# The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Kirkland is trying hard to land a takedown here. Rekje sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. #TD# Rekje tries to sprawl but Kirkland drives through with a takedown into half guard.#SUB# Kirkland maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Rekje could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Kirkland has cracked it and Rekje is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Kirkland!

#R1# Rekje throws a head kick that misses. #CL2# Rekje gets in close and instigates a clinch. Rekje tries to break the clinch but Shannon is controlling the position. Rekje misses with a shot to the kidneys.
#BC2# Rekje escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Rekje moves in looking to clinch but Shannon pushes him off. Rekje tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Shannon swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.#CL2# Rekje clinches with his opponent.
Shannon tries to score a body lock takedown but Rekje shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Shannon drops down looking for an ankle pick but Rekje pulls his leg out and moves away.

Shannon will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Shannon working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Shannon has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Shannon is looking to work some ground and pound but Rekje has wrist control. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Shannon connects with a nice short shot to Rekje's temple. Shannon is nestled in close to Rekje, controlling him well. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. #R2# Rekje tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Shannon manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Rekje throws a lazy head kick and Shannon counters with a lovely straight right hand! Rekje displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Shannon. #TD2# Rekje scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shannon struggling a bit here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shannon throws a couple of elbows from the bottom.

Shannon is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Rekje breaks from Shannon's wrist control and lands an elbow. Rekje wants to control the pace but Shannon is squirming around nicely. #SU2# Rekje gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks! Rekje lands a head kick. Shannon smiles back at him and beckons him forward. #T2# Shannon closes this distance looking for a takedown but Rekje circles away. Shannon takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Rekje gets off balance looking for a body kick and Shannon counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Rekje tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Rekje throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Rekje lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Rekje tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Shannon paws at him with a jab and circles away.#T3##TD# Shannon scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Rekje pushes Shannon away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Shannon gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Rekje is breathing heavily.#SUB# Shannon is trying to get an arm triangle but Rekje is defending well. #SUB# Shannon is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Rekje has escaped the position, nice work there. Shannon really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Rekje pushes Shannon away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Shannon gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Gordon Shannon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.#T4##SUB# Shannon thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Rekje is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Shannon has just dragged him back down to the mat. Shannon postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Shannon remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Shannon cracks Rekje with an elbow. That is naaassty. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.#SUB# Shannon goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Rekje has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Shannon but great work by Rekje.#SUB2# Rekje is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Shannon has escaped the position, nice work there.
