Gates breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Gates shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Patrick pinned against the cage. Patrick gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. #CL2#
Gates clinches up with Patrick and pushes him back against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Patrick is trying to stall.

Patrick gets caught flat footed, as Gates shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Gates in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Gates cracks Patrick with a solid left hand.

Patrick tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Gates's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Patrick utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Gates passes Patrick's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Gates missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Patrick preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Gates drops an elbow to the side of Patrick's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gates looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Patrick with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Patrick is trying to control but can't.

Gates winds up and cracks Patrick with a swinging punch to the side of the head. #T2#
Gates is thwarting Patrick's attempts to control the position.
Patrick is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.#SUB2#
Gates is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gates lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Patrick quite badly. Patrick pulls Gates in close trying to recover. Gates postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Patrick on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Patrick doesn't seem to be complaining too much.
