#R1# Smith shoots in but no luck this time. Carter jabs Smith right on the nose. Smith blinks but takes it well.#TD2# Smith gets a takedown into half guard. Carter is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.#SUB2# Smith is looking for a kimura but Carter is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Smith to get the leverage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Carter is trying to control but Smith passes into side control!
#SU2# Smith stands up. Carter lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.#T1# A decent looking cross lands there for Carter. Smith fails to land the takedown. Smith ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Smith tries for a takedown but Carter circles away easily and Carter makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Michael Carter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kevin Smith. Carter throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Smith sees it coming and avoids it easily.#TD2# Smith shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Carter keeping moving, preventing Smith from controlling successfully. #SUB# Carter escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Smith gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Smith working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. #T2# Smith cracks Carter with a solid left hand. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Carter throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Smith throws a big elbow that misses. Carter trying to control the position here. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Smith keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Carter's head. Smith throws a big elbow that misses.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Michael Carter. I think Carter has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
