Asinen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Halen will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Asinen controls from within his opponent's guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. What a brutal finish!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Halen is staying active underneath Tuminen, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Halen is looking to control Tuminen's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Halen avoid being mounted? Halen blocking the ground and pound attempt from Tuminen. Halen felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Tuminen is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Tuminen throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Gustafson has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
