#R1# The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cartagena jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Cartagena bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Rua's head backwards. Cartagena swinging wildly here.
It seemed like Rua was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Rua lands a leg kick that knocks Cartagena off balance momentarily. Nice body punch from Rua. Cartagena moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Rua throws a lazy right hand but Cartagena sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Cartagena scores with a big combo that sends Rua crashing to the mat! He's still conscious but the referee has seen enough as Rua flops around uncontrollably and he's called an end to the fight! Cartagena jumps onto the ropes and throws his mouthpiece into the crowd. Gross.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:39 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Don Cartagena! Don Cartagena decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little. |

Rua loads up on a big right hand but Hanma slips the punch. Hanma throws a low kick but it's checked well by Rua. Good leg kick by Hanma. Hanma throws a body kick that digs right into the meat. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A head kick misses from Hanma. Rua lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Hanma throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

And that's the end of the fight! Jack Hanma comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Hanma has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

#R1# The Zealot connects with a jab. Masada The Zealot seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rua darts in and out, connecting with a jab. The Zealot with a nice cross. A lazy left from The Zealot finds it's target. A punch combination from The Zealot misses. The Zealot catches Rua with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! The Zealot really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Rua throws an uppercut from half a mile away. The Zealot sees it coming and avoids it easily. The Zealot looks to land a combination but Rua avoids it well. The Zealot swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Rua's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Rua duly obliges. This has been an exciting period of action! Rua misses with a head kick.
The Zealot will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Rua crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from The Zealot - the referee stops the clock and Rua gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says The Zealot. Rua manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. The Zealot lands a nice shot that snaps Rua's head back.

Rua uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Rua has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Rua and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 2 losses; Jao Rua! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 6 wins and 1 losses; Roger Little! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Edson Gomes and Daniel Cesar.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Rua tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Little defends well and Rua ends up having to push Little into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Rua shoots for a double leg takedown but Little sprawls well. He's pushed Rua's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Little drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Rua defends it well. Rua throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Little's waist but Little gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rua off to one side. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jao Rua. Emanuel Rodrigez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rua slaps away a takedown attempt from Rodrigez, before circling back to the center of the mat. Rodrigez takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Rodrigez bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Rodrigez tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rua swats him away and circles back towards the center. Rodrigez walks into a left hand. Rodrigez pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Rua looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Rodrigez has his takedown stuffed and Rua counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Duff takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Rua has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Rua scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Duff to see if he's OK. Duff is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Rua has just dragged him back down to the mat. Rua lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Duff is pushing Rua's head away, looking to escape. Brown complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.
