#R1# Nikolai fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Maroney avoids it really well and circles away. Maroney changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.#TD# Nikolai drives through with a takedown into Maroney's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Maroney looking to control.
#SUB2# Maroney has his foot on Nikolai's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nikolai works his way back into a safe position though. Nikolai with a nice head shot there. Nikolai is stalling in the full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nikolai advances position into side control! I've been told that Maroney has been drilling his wrestling of late, which has already helped him take this fight to the mat. Let's see how much of an impact it has on the outcome of the ground game. Maroney should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Nikolai on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Nikolai tries to get out of the position. Maroney stopping the sweep attempt from Nikolai. Nikolai utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. The crowd are loving this. Great action here.#SUB# Nikolai is working for submissions here. #R1##TD# Maroney closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. OConnor quickly recovers to half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Maroney connects with a nice short shot to OConnor's temple. Maroney is keen to just control but OConnor is a slippery customer. Maroney throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Maroney takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Maroney looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
