#R1# Cortez throws a leg kick but Sweet sees it coming and checks it nicely. Sweet stuffs the takedown. A low kick from Cortez is predictable there and Sweet makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Cortez really felt that one!#TD2# Cortez closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Sweet quickly recovers to half guard. Sweet looks like he's trying to stand up.
Sweet really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Cortez slips a nice elbow through Sweet's hands, connecting with Sweet's forehead. Cortez is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sweet wants to hold on but Cortez pushes him away. Cortez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Cortez controlling the position easily from mount. #T1# Sweet is just holding on here. Cortez manages to take his back.
Sweet knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cortez on the ground. Cortez is looking to finish with some ground and pound! Sweet is trapped and Cortez is scoring with shots to the head and body. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cortez scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
#ROC2# Sweet is rocked! Cortez scoring with big shots to the body. Sweet is looking for a way out. A despairing look towards the ref and the official steps in to stop the fight. Sweet was obviously done but didn't want to tap out.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Emilio Cortez!
