#R1# Connoly pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Connoly takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Connoly swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Orava throws out a counter right but Connoly avoids it with no problem. Orava avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Connoly misses with an uppercut. Orava looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Connoly has been working on his boxing with his coaches at 10th Planet Islanders in the buildup to the fight. Connoly throws a looping overhand right but Orava ducks down to avoid it. Orava staying out of range there. Orava lands a nice shot to the body.
Orava uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Connoly.
A jab from Orava does it's job there. Orava displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Connoly throws out the jab. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Connoly shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Orava as he avoids it easily. Orava defending well as Connoly loads up on a big left hand. Connoly misses with a wild combination.
Connoly takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. #T1# Connoly takes one to the chin there. Orava lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Orava clobbers Connoly with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Connoly misses the shot to the body. Connoly wants to clinch and Orava makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Bill Connoly seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Connoly shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Orava sprawls well. Orava wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Connoly gets slowly back to his feet. Connoly misses with a body punch

Oh Connoly is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Connoly finds himself stumbling back on wobbly legs after being clipped by a right hand. He's up against the cage, ducking and weaving under Orava's strikes but an uppercut finds it's way through and Connoly falls! - He's completely out of it and the ref jumps in to save him!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Matias Orava! In his post fight interview, Matias Orava started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.

Connoly looks to score with a jab to the body but Beergut is just out of range.#CL2# Beergut fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Connoly, pushing him back against the cage.#BC2# Beergut breaks from the clinch.

#TD2# Connoly gets caught napping as Beergut dives in and scores a takedown. Connoly manages to retain guard. Connoly throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. #SUB# Connoly looking for a guillotine here but Beergut defends easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Beergut looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Connoly is trying to control the position but Beergut postures up. #T1# Beergut wants to stand but Connoly has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Connoly might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Connoly keeping full guard, as Beergut tries to pass. Connoly thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. #REF3# The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Connoly scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Sloppy strikes from Connoly. Those never looked like landing. Connoly throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Beergut misses with a series of wild punches.
#T2# Beergut looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Beergut takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
No luck for Connoly with that takedown attempt. Beergut closes this distance looking for a takedown but Connoly circles away. Connoly throws a combination that misses #CL2# and Beergut moves into the clinch. Beergut has Connoly pressed against the cage.

A punch lands to the side of Beergut 's head but he takes it in his stride. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.#TD2# Connoly gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.#T3# Connoly is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Beergut is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Connoly tries to land a sweep but no joy. Beergut tries to stand but Connoly is controlling from the bottom. Beergut slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.#T4# A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Connoly wants to control but Beergut postures up. Connoly prevents Beergut from improving position. Beergut is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Connoly manages to work his way to half guard, despite Beergut's best efforts. Beergut is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Connoly has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Beergut is working away from the top position though. Connoly is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Very smooth. #SUB2# Beergut tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Beergut has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Connoly wants to get back to his feet but Beergut is dominant here and he's now got Connoly's back! Bob Beergut has got the better of the ground game so far. Connoly trying to control the hands but Beergut won't let him. Connoly takes a big shot to the side of the head.
Beergut really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Connoly. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. You can see the frustration on Connoly's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Bill Connoly. I think Beergut has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
