Jo drops down looking for a counter takedown but Mazzagati sprawls and moves away. Mazzagati fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Jo slips under a jab. Mazzagati leaves Jo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Nice cross by Mazzagati. Jo slips under a jab from Mazzagati. Mazzagati throws a hook but Jo blocks it. Jo displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Mazzagati throws out the jab. Mazzagati misses with the body kick#TD# and Jo counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mazzagati won't be happy with that. #ES2# Mazzagati bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet! Jakh is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Jakh tries to get back to half guard but can't. #R1##TD2# Mazzagati shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Velazquez's guard. Velazquez wants to stand up but Mazzagati is controlling him. Velazquez throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Mazzagati stops Velazquez from standing up. Velazquez has a closed guard, preventing Mazzagati from standing up. Velazquez is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mazzagati is controlling him. Mazzagati is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Velazquez is looking to stand up but Mazzagati isn't so interested in that idea. Velazquez is trying to get back to full guard.#REF3# The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Mazzagati waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Velazquez. Mazzagati throws a body shot but no joy. Mazzagati misses with a wild body shot. Mazzagati displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Velazquez. Mazzagati throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Velazquez's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Mazzagati dives in looking to finish as Velazquez flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Mazzagati's strikes! Mazzagati is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Velazquez's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Velazquez was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
