#R1##TD# Mayer closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Mayer lands in his opponent's guard. Mayer working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Mayer keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Gomes's head. Gomes looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mayer is one step ahead there. Mayer is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gomes has a closed guard, preventing Mayer from standing up. #T1# Mayer distracts Gomes with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Mayer throws a strike but Gomes rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. #REVB# We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Mayer wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Gomes content to stall in guard here. Gomes trying to control but Mayer is working from the bottom. Mayer will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.#T2# The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Gomes not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Mayer is adopting a defensive guard. Mayer thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. #REF3# The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Gomes throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mayer's waist but Mayer gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gomes off to one side. Gomes shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mayer as he jumps to the side. #TD# Mayer looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.#ES2# Gomes manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Mayer keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage. #T3# Gomes changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Mayer fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Earl Mayer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anderson Gomes. Gomes looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Gomes fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Mayer half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Mayer defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gomes. Gomes on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Gomes looks winded! No luck with that takedown attempt from Gomes. #T4# Gomes shoots for a takedown but Mayer saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.#TD# Gomes gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Mayer is working Gomes over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Mayer throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Gomes works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Mayer has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Gomes controls Mayer momentarily but Mayer frees himself. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Gomes is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Earl Mayer dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! #R2# A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gomes. Mayer throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
#TD2# and Gomes counters with a nice double leg into guard. Mayer keeping moving, preventing Gomes from controlling successfully. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gomes passes into half guard. Gomes wants to control but Mayer is keeping him busy. #T1# Gomes not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Gomes is trying to control. Mayer wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Gomes might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Mayer haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Mayer wants to get back to full guard.#REF3# The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Gomes misses the shot to the body. #T2# A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Gomes is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Mayer. Gomes tries for a takedown but Mayer sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Gomes fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Earl Mayer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anderson Gomes. Gomes is breathing heavily. Gomes misses with a takedown attempt - Mayer sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Gomes shoots for a double leg takedown but Mayer sprawls well. He's pushed Gomes's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. #TD# Mayer looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.#ES2# Gomes kicks off Mayer and gets to his feet. #T3##TD# Gomes gets caught napping as Mayer dives in and scores a takedown. Gomes manages to retain guard. Gomes working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Mayer. Mayer would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Gomes seems keen to control Mayer's posture. Mayer makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Mayer stopping the sweep attempt from Gomes.#T4# Mayer is working Gomes over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.#SUB2# Gomes is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mayer is aware though and is defending well.#REF3# The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Mayer throws a wild body kick that Gomes sees coming a mile off. Mayer leaves Gomes with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.#TD2# Gomes throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Mayer was covering up waiting for the punch and Gomes finishes the takedown easily into guard. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Gomes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mayer swivels though and keeps the full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Anderson Gomes will probably get the nod - 10:9. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round! #R3# Mayer fails to land the takedown. Gomes shoots in but Mayer avoids the takedown attempt easily. Gomes darts in looking for a takedown but Mayer gets double underhooks and turns Gomes into the cage. A quick step to the side and Mayer tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gomes. Gomes blocks a low kick nicely.#CL# Mayer drives through and clinches with Gomes against the cage.

Gomes takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.#BC# Mayer breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Gomes shoots in looking for a takedown. Mayer tries to sprawl out of it but Gomes keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mayer manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Gomes shoots and misses #TD# and Mayer counters with a nice double leg into side control. Gomes won't be happy with that. Gomes is not in a great position here, taking some shots. #SUB# Mayer is working to tighten his grip on Gomes's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Gomes has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Mayer is really squeezing tight and eventually Gomes passes out! Mayer breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

#R1# Bennett fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Gomes fails with a takedown attempt.#TD2# Gomes darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.#SUB2# Gomes is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Bennett is just riding it out for now. Gomes eventually gives up the hold. Bennett wants to get back to his feet.#T1# Gomes winds up and cracks Bennett with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Gomes passes to full mount! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.#SUB2# Gomes has isolated one of Bennett's arms. Bennett looking to fight him off but Gomes twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
