#R1# Griffin looks to throw the jab but Cornado is out of range. Griffin tries for a takedown but Cornado circles away easily and Cornado counters with a right hand to the body. Griffin looks for a takedown but Cornado sprawls well. It looked like Cornado was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Griffin. Griffin doesn't succeed with the takedown and Cornado makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Calisto Cornado has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt Griffin. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A big right from Griffin misses. Cornado swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.#T1# Griffin throws the left hand but Cornado avoids the punch easily. A telegraphed right hand from Griffin misses the target. Griffin moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. Griffin is looking to land body kicks. Calisto Cornado is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Griffin throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Cornado appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body. Cornado moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Cornado works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.#T2# Griffin looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Cornado is fending him off so far but Griffin persists. Nope, Cornado circles away and we're back to standing. Cornado cracks a nice hook into Griffin's ribs. A looping hook to the body misses from Griffin. Cornado does a little dance to reset his feet. Griffin's coach down at Cozad MMA Tokyo was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Griffin's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Griffin drops his hands momentarily and Cornado takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Griffin fails with the takedown and Cornado cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Griffin is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cornado. #T3# Griffin shoots in for a takedown but Cornado shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Cornado lands with a right hand. Cornado is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. A lazy left from Cornado finds it's target. Griffin falls off balance throwing a combination
and Cornado counters with a one-two to the body. #T4# Cornado lands a really nice looking cross but Griffin seems unphased.
A slow jab from Griffin misses its intended target. Cornado seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter. Cornado goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. This has been an exciting period of action!#CL2# Griffin gets a clinch. #BC2# Griffin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Griffin takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Griffin throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Cornado counters with a straight right hand. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Calisto Cornado dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. #R2# Cornado throws a combination. Griffin tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Cornado tests Griffin's chin there with a solid looking shot.#TD2# Griffin gets a takedown into half guard. Cornado wants to control but Griffin is keeping busy and won't allow it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Griffin winds up and cracks Cornado with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Griffin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.#SUB2# Griffin is trying for a kimura here. Cornado looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Griffin wins by kimura!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Matt Griffin! Matt Griffin bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
