The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Almeida gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Kimura got a little sloppy there for a moment and Almeida has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! Almeida has his foot on Kimura's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kimura works his way back into a safe position though. Almeida has control of Kimura's left arm, preventing Kimura from doing any damage. Almeida wants to sweep but no luck. Almeida is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Kimura controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Almeida is pulling down on Kimura's head. It's preventing any offense from Kimura, at least for the moment. Almeida manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kimura manages to get himself to full guard.

Almeida might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Kimura haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Kimura is controlling the position but Almeida somehow manages to roll and ends up with half guard.

That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Almeida wants to hold on but Kimura pushes him away. Almeida is looking to improve his position but Kimura isn't that keen on the idea. Almeida reaches up and holds on to Kimura to control the position. Almeida tries to lock up and control but Kimura gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Almeida is trying to escape the mount.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Almeida tries to hold on but Kimura pushes him away. Kimura wants to take his opponent's back but instead Almeida manages to regain half guard. Almeida is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Almeida trying to hold on to Kimura's head to control him but Kimura postures up.
Almeida is controlling Kimura's position as best he can from this difficult position. Almeida is looking to improve his position.

#R1##TD2# Almeida dives in and scores a takedown into Keem's guard. Almeida trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Almeida really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Keem. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Almeida is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. #SUB# Keem escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Almeida gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Almeida keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Keem's head. Almeida distracts Keem with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.#SUB# Keem is looking to cinch up a triangle. Almeida throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Keem's body to avoid the submission. Keem has instead reached around Almeida's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Keem arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Wa Keem!
