Kovalchick just stands there and leans against the cage. Brute is trying to force a seperation but Kovalchick has the dominant position.#TD# Brute manages to pull guard.
#SU2# Kovalchick stands up and waves to Brute to follow him. Kovalchick tries to clinch up letting Brute counter with a right hand. #CL2# Kovalchick closes the distance and clinches. Brute tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kovalchick just stands there and leans against the cage. Kovalchick connects with a knee to the head.
#CUT2# It looks like Brian Brute has been cut. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kovalchick using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Brute has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Kovalchick told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight. Brute is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Brute is trying to pull guard but Kovalchick turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brian Brute. That's going to take a lot out of him. Brute avoiding damage.

#R1# Brute rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Chan moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Chan tried to counter with a leg kick but Brute avoided it. Brute throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Chan's waist but Chan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Brute off to one side. Brute shoots for a double leg takedown but Chan sprawls well. He's pushed Brute's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Brute circles away from the clinch attempt.
A head kick misses from Brute. Chan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Brute misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Brute throws a shot to the body.
Brian Brute seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. No luck for Brute with that takedown attempt. Ernesto Chan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brian Brute. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Chan fails with the takedown. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Oneil's half guard. Brute missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Brute wants to pass to mount but Oneil is defending the position.
