Vargas working the head and body with strikes. Vargas creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Dost sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Dost is looking to regain half guard here but Vargas keeps moving and retains side control. Vargas is chipping away with strikes.
Dost wants to control but Vargas postures up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Vargas lands a nice forearm strike. Valeri is trying to control. Vargas wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Vargas knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Valeri on the ground. Valeri is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Valeri looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Vargas gets slowly back to his feet.#TD2# Correira closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Correira throwing shots but Vargas is blocking nicely. Vargas is trying to stand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Vargas is controlling Correira's position as best he can from this difficult position. Correira perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. #T1# Correira thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Correira sitting and controlling from the half guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Correira tries to stand and escape but Vargas actually recovers to full guard. Peters throws a nice looking combination but Vargas bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Peters throws a series of punches but Vargas moves out of range. Vargas attempts a counter takedown but Peters avoids it well and moves away. Peters throws a right and a left that both miss. Peters looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Peters throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

That was a close round but I would say that Rigoberto Vargas will probably get the nod. Rigoberto Vargas overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Barrera is concentrating on defense, preventing Vargas from advancing position. The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Vargas for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.#T4# There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
