This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the featherweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Cub Lamas! And in the blue corner, fighting out of St Petersburg, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Dai Roberts!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Saam Ante and Paul Aken.


The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Horrible takedown attempt by Roberts or perhaps it was just good defense by Lamas, which made it look bad.

Lamas moves into range and clinches up with Roberts.

Lamas has hold of one of Roberts's legs. Roberts is fighting the takedown attempt but Lamas gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Roberts controlling the position.
Lamas looking to sit in guard and control but Roberts gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Roberts thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Lamas on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Lamas tries to get out of the position.

Roberts sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Roberts passes easily into side control. Nice work.

A lull in the action here as Roberts stalls from top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Let's hope that Roberts has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
It looks like Roberts might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lamas is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Roberts is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Lamas is trying to escape the position but Roberts is controlling the position.

Roberts tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Roberts has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Lamas seems a little lost for a moment, as Roberts dominates the positioning.

Lamas tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Roberts thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Lamas is not content to let Roberts control the position.

Roberts is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Lamas knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Roberts moves into full mount!

Roberts takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Lamas prevents Roberts from taking his back.
Lamas tries to control the position but Roberts now has his back.

Lamas tries to break free.
Lamas is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Roberts is hanging on to Lamas's back as he tries to escape.

Lamas is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Roberts gets his way!

Roberts's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Roberts is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Lamas knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Lamas for a finish.

Lamas is trying to defend against the choke here but Roberts has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Roberts Tightens the hold and Lamas taps out furiously! Roberts displays superior BJJ to win the fight.
