Now he's in guard on top. #REVR# Cupido looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Simpson puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Still in half guard, Simpson seems content to control. Simpson stops Cupido from getting back to his feet.

Ernie Simpson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Cupido is trying to control but can't.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Simpson lands a nice short elbow. Ground and pound from Simpson. Cupido is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Cupido blocking the ground and pound attempt from Simpson. Cupido is trying is best to control the position here. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Simpson working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Simpson is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Calvert pulls him back up using the underhooks. Simpson pushes off an throws an elbow but Calvert leans to the side and avoids it. Simpson looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Calvert tries to stand but Simpson is controlling from the bottom. Calvert steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Simpson's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Simpson just didn't come prepared.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Starman looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Simpson on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. #CUT2# It looks like Ernie Simpson has been cut. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Starman slips a nice elbow through Simpson's hands, connecting with Simpson's forehead. Starman takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Starman missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. #TD2# Simpson tries to sprawl but Lightning drives through with a takedown into half guard. Lightning scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Still in half guard, Lightning seems content to control. Simpson trying to control from the bottom.
It looks like Lightning is going to stand back up.
Lightning landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lightning controlling the action here.#T1# Lightning looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Simpson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Lightning is nestled in close to Simpson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.#SUB2# Lightning is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Simpson can't fight it off and eventually Malofeev manages to take the fight to the floor. Simpson looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Simpson has a closed guard, preventing Malofeev from standing up. #T1# Malofeev trying to move into half guard but instead Simpson has managed to sweep!#REVR# Simpson wants to control from the top but Malofeev keeps moving. Simpson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Malofeev wants to get back to his feet but Simpson is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Malofeev tries to land a sweep but no joy.
