#R1# Avery with a poor takedown #CL# and Barnheart moves into the clinch.#BC# Barnheart escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
#TD2# Avery bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Barnheart tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Avery wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Avery working away. Avery trying to control the action but Barnheart is working from the bottom. No, Avery has managed to get both his arms back between Barnheart's legs - danger averted. Barnheart managing to control the position. Avery postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. #T3# Barnheart keeping moving, preventing Avery from controlling successfully. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Barnheart wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Barnheart will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Avery throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Barnheart has his hands clasped together around Avery's back. A close round but Liam Avery will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! #R2# Barnheart fails with a takedown attempt. Avery tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Barnheart is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Avery. A head kick by Barnheart misses #TD2# and Avery decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Barnheart's guard. Barnheart is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Barnheart is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Barnheart prevents Avery from getting back to his feet. Barnheart wants to get up but he can't break Avery's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. #T3# Barnheart stays in close to Avery's body and controls the position. #REF3# The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Avery misses the shot to the body. Barnheart tries for a takedown but Avery sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Avery tries to counter by closing the distance.#CL# Barnheart drives through and clinches with Avery against the cage.
The referee is keeping an eye on Avery - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Avery tries to counter with a clinch but Barnheart shakes him off and moves away. Barnheart leaves Avery with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Barnheart fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

#TD# Barnheart shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Avery manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Barnheart wants to pass the guard but Avery is keeping the position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Avery can do anything to dispel that myth. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Barnheart lands a nice short elbow.#SUB# Barnheart is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Avery is just riding it out for now. Barnheart eventually gives up the hold. Barnheart winds up and cracks Avery with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Avery trying to hold on to Barnheart's head to control him but Barnheart postures up.

Avery is looking for a sweep. Barnheart works to advance to full mount. Avery defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Barnheart content just to control the position here. A nice elbow there by Barnheart. Barnheart will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.#T4##SUB# Barnheart looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Liam Avery has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Shawn Barnheart is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.#ES# Barnheart manages to escape and get back to his feet.
