Karlsson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mir on the ground.
Karlsson stops Mir from passing to mount.
Mir tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Mir working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mir wants to lay and pray for a moment but Karlsson keeps working. #T1#
Karlsson takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Mir creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Karlsson sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. #SUB2#
Mir goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Karlsson rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Mir's guard! Nice work there by Karlsson! #SUB2#
Mir is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Karlsson is aware though and is defending well.#SUB2#
Mir is looking to cinch up a triangle. Karlsson throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Mir's body to avoid the submission. Mir has instead reached around Karlsson's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Mir arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Frank Mir!

Benton tries for a takedown but Karlsson circles away easily
and Karlsson makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Benton tries to clinch
and Karlsson counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Benton falls off balance throwing a combination
letting Karlsson counter with a right hand. #CUT2#
It looks like Aleksander Benton has been cut.
Karlsson scores with a hook to the body. Benton takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. #KD2#
Karlsson lands a left and a right that send Benton crashing to the mat, dazed. Karlsson thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!#ROC2#

and Karlsson counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Oh Benton is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Benton is breathing heavily.
Benton glances at the clock... BAM! Karlsson nails him with a big right hand! A momentary lapse in concentration sends Benton crashing to the mat! The referee steps in and this one is over! Damn, Benton is out of it, he thinks the ref is his opponent!

Karlsson throws a body punch but Cruz moves out of range.
Karlsson misses with a jab to the body #CL#
and Cruz counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Cruz.
Cruz jumps guard but Karlsson stands there with Cruz around his waist. Cruz gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Karlsson tries to break free but Cruz pushes him back against the cage.

Cruz works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cruz accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Ezequiel Cruz's cut is getting worse.
Karlsson finds Cruz's off switch, with a big overhand right that connects perfectly to the side of the head! Cruz flops back against the cage, eyes gazing into the distance. Karlsson lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure Cruz will be OK.
