Reak is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joel Vance. #R1##TD2# Sonmez closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Vance quickly recovers to half guard. Sonmez slips a nice elbow through Vance's hands, connecting with Vance's forehead. Sonmez scoring with strikes to the body and head. Vance is looking to improve his position.
Sonmez looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Vance with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. #ROC2# Vance is rocked! Sonmez takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Sonmez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.#SU2# Sonmez decides to return to a standing position. Vance avoids a punch combination nicely.

Vance controls Kovacs momentarily but Kovacs frees himself. Kovacs really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vance. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Vance tries to land a sweep but no joy. Kovacs is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Kovacs postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Vance is trying to control the position but Kovacs postures up. I really don't envy Vance right now.
Kovacs is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Kovacs gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Kovacs gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Kovacs apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Mate throws a push kick but Vance slaps the foot to one side. An attempted straight right counter from Vance misses the target. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Vance tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mate swivels and escapes.
