Yoshida wants to counter the offense by Xander and move into the clinch position. Nice sprawl there from Yoshida as Xander shoots in. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Caleb Xander. That's going to take a lot out of him. Yoshida lands with a shot to the body. Yoshida fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Xander on the side of the head. Caleb Xander seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.#T1# Xander closes the distance and clinches up with Yoshida, looking for a takedown. Xander pushes Yoshida against the cage but Yoshida circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Yoshida is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.#CL2# Yoshida fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Xander, pushing him back against the cage. Yoshida lands with a light punch inside. Xander tries to pull guard but Yoshida forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Yoshida lands a nice elbow. #TD2# Yoshida wants the takedown. Xander is fighting it off but Yoshida persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Xander's guard against the cage. Yoshida slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Xander looking to hit a scissor sweep but Yoshida is one step ahead there. #T2##SUB# Xander isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Yoshida stacks Xander on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Yoshida! Xander is trying to get back to half guard. Xander is being controlled here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.#T3# Xander is trying to get back to half guard. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Xander is trying to control Yoshida's posture but Yoshida avoids it. #REF3# The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Yoshida throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Yoshida has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Xander misses with a takedown attempt #CL2# and Yoshida counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Yoshida. Yoshida throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Xanders head. Yoshida lands a body punch. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.#TD2# Yoshida has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Xander regains guard immediately. Xander can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Yoshida controls the pace.#T2# The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Yoshida's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Xander is looking to sweep but instead, Yoshida has passed into half guard.
Xander is trying to get back to full guard.#T3# Yoshida controlling the action here. Let's hope that Yoshida has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Xander manages to get to full guard.

#T4# There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.#SUB# Xander throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Yoshida escapes and throws Xander's legs to the side, diving into side control! Xander tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Yoshida presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Xander sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Yoshida is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Xander tries to get to full guard but Yoshida has control of the leg. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Xander wants to take a breather but Yoshida is having none of it. Yoshida is controlling Xander's trapped leg to prevent Xander from advancing to side control. Yoshida tries to get to full guard but Xander has control of the leg. #SUB# Xander wants to work for an arm triangle but Yoshida is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

He's hooked one of Xander's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Xander's back! Hitoshi Yoshida has got the better of the ground game so far. Yoshida controls the action. Good control from Yoshida. Yoshida really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Xander. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. More stalling from Yoshida.#T2# Yoshida gets his hands free as Xander looks to control. Xander is really stuck here.

#T3# Yoshida is pulling down on Xander's head to control his posture. #SUB2# Yoshida has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Xander can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Yoshida keeping moving, preventing Xander from controlling successfully. Xander is fighting to break Yoshida's control of his arms but Yoshida is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.#T4# The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Xander trying to control but Yoshida is working from the bottom. Xander wants to pass the guard but Yoshida is keeping the position. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Xander slips nicely into half guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Yoshida can do anything to dispel that myth. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Xander stalling.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Caleb Xander. Well Yoshida has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality.
