Gracias has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.#TD# Allen looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Gracias! Gracias seems a little lost for a moment, as Allen dominates the positioning. Gracias tries to bench press Allen off him but Allen keeps the position. Allen working away. Gracias tries to bench press Allen off him but Allen keeps the position. Gracias taking a bit of punishment here - Van Der Dusse scoring with strikes. We've been hearing that Van Der Dusse has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. Gracias pushes Van Der Dusse away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Van Der Dusse gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Gracias prevents Van Der Dusse from moving into mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Van Der Dusse connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Gracias some visible discomfort.
Gracias felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Van Der Dusse wants to control but Gracias is keeping him busy. Van Der Dusse cracks Gracias with an elbow. That is naaassty. This has been an exciting period of action!
