Horrible takedown attempt by Johnson or perhaps it was just good defense by Shaw, which made it look bad. Johnson takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Shaw pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. As Shaw tries to get set, Johnson tries to push him back and clinch up but Shaw manages to avoid the attempt. Shaw throws a head kick but Johnson moves out of range.
DJ Shaw seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Shaw looks to throw a body kick#TD# and Johnson counters with a shoot takedown. Shaw fights it but they end up in guard. Shaw is looking to stand up but Johnson isn't so interested in that idea. Shaw is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Johnson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shaw on the ground. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Johnson trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Beard is pulling down on Johnson's head. It's preventing any offense from Johnson, at least for the moment. Johnson missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Beard is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. Johnson looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Scrivner puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. #ES# Johnson pushes Scrivner off and gets back to his feet.#CL2# Scrivner closes the distance and pushes Johnson back into the cage. Johnson jumps guard but Scrivner stands there with Johnson around his waist. Johnson gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Johnson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
