Smith postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Steel is not content to let Smith control the position. Steel takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Steel is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Smith has just dragged him back down to the mat. Smith sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Steel is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Steel is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. #R1##TD2# Smith manages to get an easy takedown there - catching MBaku on his heels. He'll look to pass MBaku's guard now, I'm sure. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Smith trying to control but MBaku is working from the bottom. #SUB# MBaku is looking for a triangle but Smith pushes his legs off easily.
Smith trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Smith lands a couple of elbows.#SUB# Smith is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but MBaku has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Smith is looking to defend but MBaku has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Smith! MBaku pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Smith taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Madik MBaku! After winning the bout, Madik MBaku thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.

Smith shoots for a double leg takedown but Romero sprawls well. He's pushed Smith's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. And Romero tries to counter it with a takedown but Smith pushes his down on his head and steps out. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hunter Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.#TD# Smith is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Romero's half guard. #R1##TD# Nasty feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Nasty is on the wrong end of a couple of strikes there. Smith throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Nasty has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Smith looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Nasty throws a big elbow that misses. A relieved looking Hunter Smith thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
