#R1# Punch stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.#CUT2# It looks like Eric Smith has been cut. Punch throws a shot from downtown. Smith moves away and avoids it. Smith is looking for a counter combo. Punch avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Smith avoids the body shot from Punch.
A telegraphed right hand from Punch misses the target. Punch throws a jab when Smith was well out of range. Punch misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Smith.
Smith tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Punch manages to circle out of the way.#KD2# Nice combo by Punch! Oh, that's hurt him - Smith falls to the canvas and Punch follows him into side control. #ROC2# Smith is rocked! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Smith manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Smith is looking to advance position but Punch won't allow it. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Punch can do anything to dispel that myth. Punch pushes Smith off looking to stand but Smith dives back in and keeps control.
Smith throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Punch keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. #T1# Smith trying to control from half guard but Punch is working away. Punch looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Smith stops Punch from getting back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.#SUB# Smith is looking for a kimura here.
#ES2# Punch has one foot on Smith's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Punch looks to throw the jab but Smith is out of range. No luck for Smith with that takedown attempt. #T2# Punch lands a nice shot to the body.
Punch tries to bum rush Smith with a series of wild strikes but Smith uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Smith throws a quick counter head kick but Punch was just out of range. Punch changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Punch throws a big shot that misses. It looked like Smith was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. A looping hook to the body misses from Punch. Smith does a little dance to reset his feet. Smith staying out of range there. Punch stuffs the takedown. Punch swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Smith. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Smith shoots in for a takedown but Punch shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eric Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him. Punch lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Smith circles away quickly and effectively. Smith avoids the body shot from Punch.
Punch throws a body punch but Smith moves out of range. #T3# Punch works Smith's body with a nice hook. Smith shoots for a double leg takedown but Punch sprawls well. He's pushed Smith's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Smith fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Punch avoids it really well and circles away. Smith is breathing heavily. Punch will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Smith tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Smith tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Smith doesn't succeed with the takedown and Smith takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Punch throws a looping overhand right but Smith ducks down to avoid it. Smith slips under a jab from Punch.#T4# Smith uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Punch.
Smith shoots in but Punch avoids the takedown attempt easily. Smith swings and misses with a shot to the body and Punch counters with a straight punch to the midsection. One Punch is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Smith gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Punch counters with a left right combination that sends Smith crashing to the mat - Punch wastes no time in diving on top of him and pounding Smith out for a TKO! Devastating finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). One Punch! One Punch very nearly forgot to thank Woodshins' Ship amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name.
