Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.#SUB# Ribeiro is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Johnson sees it coming and defends easily. Ribeiro content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Ribeiro wants to pass the guard but Johnson is defending well. Ribeiro not doing much here.
Johnson makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Johnson. Ribeiro keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Johnson's head. Askcrew tries for a takedown but Ribeiro sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. A jab from Ribeiro misses. Ribeiro moves away from the strike by Askcrew. Ribeiro half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Askcrew tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Ribeiro swivels and escapes. Marcus Ribeiro has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ren Askcrew.#TD# Ribeiro looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Askcrew! Askcrew is looking to reverse the position.#SUB# Ribeiro is working to tighten his grip on Askcrew's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Askcrew has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Ribeiro is really squeezing tight and eventually Askcrew passes out! Ribeiro fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Buchanan manages to avoid it. Buchanan throws a jab but it's blocked by Ribeiro. A looping hook to the body misses from Ribeiro. and Blackbeard counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Ribeiro avoids the body shot from Blackbeard.
Ribeiro has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Blackbeard darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Blackbeard connects with a body shot that sends Ribeiro's belly button to the back. Blackbeard is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. Ribeiro takes one on the button. Blackbeard bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Ribeiro's head backwards. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Blackbeard lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Ribeiro at a distance.
