#R1# Thompson getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Waddell takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Waddell blocks a head kick by Thompson.
Thompson lands with an uppercut that bounces Waddell off the cage and back into range. Thompson stalks Waddell and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Waddell's face. Waddell staggers backwards, shaken. Thompson with a hook. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Thompson.
Waddell misses with a takedown letting Thompson counter with a right hand. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.#T1# Waddell walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Thompson lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Thompson is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range. Thompson lands with a nice body punch. Waddell looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Waddell on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
#T2# Thompson lunges at Waddell with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Waddell's hand. Thompson is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Waddell had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. Waddell doesn't manage to clinch there - Thompson circles away.
Thompson flicks out a counter leg kick but Waddell steps away. Thompson lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Waddell fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Thompson avoids it really well and circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Iain Waddell. That's going to take a lot out of him. Thompson lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Waddell could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Thompson bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Waddell walks into a jab. #R1##TD# Emkimp looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Waddell is controlling Emkimp's trapped leg to prevent Emkimp from advancing to side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Let's hope that Waddell has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Waddell should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Emkimp throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. #T1# Emkimp prevents Waddell from standing back up.

Emkimp prevents Waddell from improving his position.#SUB# Emkimp is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Waddell is just riding it out for now.
