#R1# Diaz circles away from the clinch attempt.
Diaz changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Martinez throws a head kick that Diaz semi-blocks.
A head kick by Martinez misses #TD2# and Diaz counters with a nice double leg into guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Martinez wants to get back to his feet but Diaz is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Martinez keeping moving, preventing Diaz from controlling successfully. Diaz with a flurry of punches that miss. Diaz chips away with some ground and pound. Martinez wants to stand and escape but Diaz is having none of it. Diaz trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Martinez wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Diaz manages to pass to side control. Diaz throwing shots but Martinez is blocking nicely. Martinez looks like he's trying to stand up.

Diaz is looking to take a break and control but Martinez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Diaz is pressing down on Martinez's thigh, looking to free his foot. #REF3# The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Martinez closes the distance looking to clinch #TD2# and Diaz counters with a nice double leg into side control. Martinez won't be happy with that. Diaz looks winded! Diaz grinds an elbow into Martinez's temple. Martinez is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Diaz has just dragged him back down to the mat. Martinez defending against the ground and pound. Martinez on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Martinez tries to get out of the position. Martinez wants to get back to his feet but Diaz drags him back down. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Diaz scores with a couple of short elbows. Martinez is trying to buck Diaz off. Martinez takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Diaz cracks Martinez with an elbow. That is naaassty. Diaz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Martinez keeps working. Diaz cracks Martinez with a big elbow. Martinez takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Martinez wants to get back to his feet. Diaz connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Martinez some visible discomfort.
Martinez on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Diaz working the head and body with strikes. Martinez is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Diaz has just dragged him back down to the mat.#T4# Martinez tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops. Diaz lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Diaz.
Diaz is looking to finish with some ground and pound! Martinez wants to get back to his feet. Diaz tries to get the hooks in deep but Martinez pushed the leg off. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Diaz lands with a hammerfist to the side of Martinez's head. Diaz looking to soften up his opponent with punches.
Martinez is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Nate Diaz dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! #R2# Martinez lands a glancing blow to the side of Diaz's head. Martinez wants to clinch but Diaz slips to the side#TD2# and Diaz counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Martinez! Diaz has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Diaz prevents Martinez from escaping the position. Martinez tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck. Martinez taking shots to the head. #ROC2# Martinez is rocked!#CUT2# It looks like Don Martinez has been cut. Diaz pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Martinez is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Nate Diaz has got the better of the ground game so far. Diaz can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Martinez is looking to escape. Diaz with the ground and pound from mount. Diaz is breathing heavily. Diaz lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
