Nine slips a jab from Clay. Nine tries to score with a low kick but Clay moves his leg out of the way. Clay dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Nine. That did some damage! Clay rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Nine counters with a series of strikes. Clay will be more careful next time no doubt. Clay buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Clay's coach down at CrossFit Sydney was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Clay's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Clay lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Nine at a distance.
Nine with a lazy takedown attempt and Clay counters with a lovely straight right hand! Clay circles away from the clinch attempt and Clay counters with a nice leg kick. Nine closes this distance looking for a takedown but Clay circles away. Clay wants to counter with a clinch but Nine pushes him away. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Clay takes a swing at Nine's ribcage but misses. Nine is trying to keep his angry face on. Clay throws a jab but it's blocked by Nine. Clay slaps away a takedown attempt from Nine, before circling back to the center of the mat. Clay thinks about the counter body kick. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Koah Nine. Nine ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Nine keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Nine now looks to counter with a shot at the body. Clay keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Clay throws a nice inside leg kick. Clay lands a nice leg kick that just misses Nine's sensitive parts. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nine tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. A good leg kick by Clay. Clay throws a nice head kick!
