#R1# Nice shot by Lyles.#CUT2# It looks like Omer Rutledge has been cut. Rutledge changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lyles tries to avoid it but Rutledge manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lyles to the ground. Lyles escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. #TD2# Lyles closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Lyles lands in his opponent's guard.#ES# Rutledge wriggles free and stands up. Lyles goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Rutledge wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. A jab from Lyles finds it's way through Rutledge's defenses. Rutledge could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.#TD2# A momentary lapse in concentration from Rutledge enables Lyles to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Rutledge manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!#SUB# Rutledge looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.#SUB# Rutledge had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Lyles defends it easily. Lyles controls from within his opponent's guard. #T1# Lyles distracts Rutledge with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Lyles is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Lyles working some strikes from top position.#SUB# Rutledge is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Lyles is aware though and is defending well.#SUB# Rutledge throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Lyles escapes and throws Rutledge's legs to the side, diving into side control! Rutledge is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Lyles working the ground and pound from side control.#SU2# Lyles has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. #T2##TD2# Lyles closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Rutledge's guard. Lyles sitting in guard, not really doing much. Lyles chips away with some ground and pound. Rutledge is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Lyles slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Lyles trying to control but Rutledge is working from the bottom. Lyles controls from within his opponent's guard. #T3# Rutledge has a closed guard, preventing Lyles from standing up. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rutledge is on top in guard.
#REVR# Lyles pulls Rutledge in to control the position. Lyles looking to control.
#T4# The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Rutledge landing with the ground and pound. Lyles is pulling down on Rutledge's head. It's preventing any offense from Rutledge, at least for the moment. Rutledge postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Rutledge missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Rutledge is looking to work some ground and pound but Lyles has wrist control. Rutledge with a flurry of punches that miss. Lyles wants to sweep here but Rutledge controlling him for the moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Lyles not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Lyles is adopting a defensive guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Johny Lyles dominated that round. The cut man is working on Omer Rutledge's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! #R2# Lyles throws a right hand that Rutledge ducks under and follows up with a left that Rutledge also avoids with ease.#TD2# Lyles closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Rutledge quickly recovers to half guard.#ES# Rutledge makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!#CL2# Lyles clinches up with Rutledge and pushes him back against the cage. Rutledge drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Rutledge goes for a takedown attempt but Lyles pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Johny Lyles seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.#CL2# Lyles rushes Rutledge and presses him up against the cage.#T1##TD# Rutledge tightens his grip and picks Lyles up, before dumping him to the ground. Lyles manages to land in guard. Lyles pulls Rutledge in close to his closed guard and prevents Rutledge from doing any damage or advancing position. Rutledge keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Lyles's head. Lyles looking to control.
Lyles manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rutledge manages to get himself to full guard.

Rutledge is staying active underneath Lyles, who seems content to just control the action from this position. #T2# Rutledge wants to get back to his feet.
Lyles slows the pace down in half guard. #SUB# Rutledge looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Rutledge is looking for a sweep. Lyles is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Rutledge is working hard here to advance position. Lyles trying to control the action but Rutledge is working from the bottom. #T3##SUB# Rutledge is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Lyles pulls his head out easily. Lyles content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Rutledge trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Lyles controlling from mount. Rutledge might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Rutledge is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. Lyles landing punches. #CUT2# Omer Rutledge's cut is getting worse. Lyles sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Lyles lands with some strikes.#CUT2# Omer Rutledge's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.#T4##SUB2# Lyles has hold of Rutledge's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Rutledge manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Rutledge is squirming around, avoiding Lyles's attempts to control the action. Rutledge is desperately trying to improve his position but Lyles has a good base and remains in mount. Lyles cracks Rutledge with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
#CUT2# Jeez, Omer Rutledge's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Omer Rutledge's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
