#R1# The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tomson with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Sugawara tries to land a leg kick but Tomson saw it coming and moves away.
Sugawara shoots for a double leg takedown but Tomson sprawls well. He's pushed Sugawara's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Tomson definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Sugawara swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Tomson uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Sugawara chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Tomson can pounce on him.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Sugawara. As Sugawara looks to move away, Tomson throws a big counter combo but Sugawara just gets out of the way. Tomson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Sugawara has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight. Sugawara fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Tomson manages to avoid it. Tomson with the inside leg kick. Tomson loads up on a big right hand but Sugawara slips the punch.#T1# Sugawara pivots, looking for a leg kick but Tomson is out of range and Sugawara settles back down. Sugawara closes this distance looking for a takedown but Tomson circles away. Tomson throws a wild combination but nothing lands. And Sugawara tries to counter it with a takedown but Tomson pushes his down on his head and steps out. Tomson lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! A swing and a miss from Tomson. A punch lands to the side of Sugawara 's head but he takes it in his stride. A low kick from Sugawara misses and Tomson counters with a nice leg kick. Tomson is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. Sugawara stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Tomson. Sugawara misses with a wild body shot. #TD2# Sugawara shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Tomson wants to get back to his feet.

Sugawara walks into a left hand. Nice defenses there by Tomson. Tomson looks to throw the jab but Sugawara is out of range. Tomson lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Jab by Tomson. Tomson moves out of range of the leg kick from Sugawara. Tomson fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Sugawara on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Tomson throws a lazy right hand but Sugawara sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.#T2# Sugawara throws a solid leg kick but Tomson takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Sugawara. Tomson avoids a punch combination nicely.

Our sources have told us that Sando has been working on his elbows in the gym. Sando throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
#TD2# Sugawara wants the takedown. Sando is fighting it off but Sugawara persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Sando's guard against the cage. Sando keeping moving, preventing Sugawara from controlling successfully. Sugawara won't allow Sando to sweep him here. #SUB2# Sugawara thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sugawara wants to control from the top but Sando keeps moving. Sando can't keep his opponent in guard - Sugawara advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sugawara is keen to just control but Sando is a slippery customer. Sugawara takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
