Lewis lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Persia backwards. Lewis managing to block the knees to the body from Persia.
Persia is stalling here.
Lewis tries to break free but Persia pushes him back against the cage. Lewis throws a head punch that misses. Lewis fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A short right from Lewis. A quick uppercut on the inside from Lewis. Persia tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. Lewis avoiding damage.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Lewis's coach down at Concrete's Cave was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Lewis's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Persia blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Lewis tries to kick Persia off but Persia keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Lewis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Persia. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Persia takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Persia sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Lewis defending well though. Lewis avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Persia. #REF3# The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Persia swinging wildly here.
Persia misses with a right hand and Lewis counters with a straight right hand. Lewis lands a nice hook to Persia's body. Persia takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Nice uppercut lands for Lewis. That snapped Persia's head back.

#R1# The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Persia throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Persia sets himself, and Wackie steps forward looking for the clinch! Persia avoids it this time. Wackie throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Wackie throws out a token jab with nothing on it.#CL# Persia instigates a clinch. Wackie's coach down at Clinch Pride was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Wackie's balance. Wackie is trying to maintain a safe position but Persia gets an underhook and turns Wackie into the cage. Persia goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
#TD# Persia tightens his grip and picks Wackie up, before dumping him to the ground. Wackie manages to land in guard. Persia throwing strikes from guard but Wackie blocks nicely. Persia has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Persia with a flurry of punches that miss. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Persia slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Wackie really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Persia. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Wackie chips away with some ground and pound.#T2# Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Wackie lands a couple of elbows. The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A punch combination from Petard misses. Persia moves into the clinch. Petard pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Persia gets cracked there but stands up to it.
It looks like Cyrus Persia has been cut. Persia shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Petard's guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Petard can do anything to dispel that myth. Petard keeping full guard, as Persia tries to pass. Persia is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Petard throws a right hand that Persia ducks under and follows up with a left that Persia also avoids with ease. Persia drops down looking for a counter takedown but Petard sprawls and moves away. Persia getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Persia shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Persia was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Petard tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
