Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Cortez just content to control the position. Cole is looking to regain half guard here but Cortez keeps moving and retains side control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cortez passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Cole! Cole is squirming around, avoiding Cortez's attempts to control the action. Cole tries to reverse the position but Cortez maintains control.#T1# Cortez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Cortez pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Cortez lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. #R1# The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jaktic tries for a takedown but Cole sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Jaktic moves out of range as Cole strikes. Jaktic misses with a takedown attempt - Cole sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Cole is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch. William Jaktic seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.#TD# Jaktic decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Cole is refusing to be controlled, as Jaktic sits in half guard. Jaktic moves nicely into side control. Cole is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Jaktic is controlling him well. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Jaktic hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Cole looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Wright trying to control the position from guard on top but Cole is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Wright's corner is telling him to maintain position. Cole wants to sweep but no luck. Wright is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Wright seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Cole for as long as he can get away with. Wright wants to control from the top but Cole keeps moving. #R1# The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mvarre throws an overhand right that lands on Cole's shoulder, as Cole tries to avoid the shot. Cole avoids the head kick by Mvarre.
Mvarre connects with a jab. Mvarre misses with a body shot.
Pierre Mvarre seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Cole uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Mvarre. Mvarre misses with a few strikes there.

Cole has his takedown stuffed and Cole takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Cole looks winded! Mvarre throws a head kick but Cole moves out of range.

Cole's coach down at Catch Wrestling L.A. was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Cole's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Mvarre jumps guard but Cole turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Cole is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Mvarre tries to pull guard but Cole forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Mvarre drops down looking for an ankle pick but Cole pulls his leg out and moves away.

The referee calls for the bell and Mvarre runs up the cage to celebrate with his fans!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cole throws a wild body kick that Lahey sees coming a mile off. Cole moves into range and clinches up with Lahey. Cole blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Cole is trying to control the action in half guard but Lahey is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Lahey tries to kick Cole off but Cole keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Cole has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Cole escapes and gets back to his feet. A thudding body kick lands there by Cole!
