#R1# Sha looks to score with a jab to the body but Gerkin is just out of range. Gerkin appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Sha swings and misses with a shot to the body#TD# and Gerkin decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Sha's guard. Gerkin showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Gerkin seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Sha for as long as he can get away with. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gerkin passes Sha's left leg - he's now in half guard. Gerkin missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. #T1# Gerkin lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. #SUB# Gerkin wants to work for an arm triangle but Sha is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Gerkin passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Sha! #SUB# Gerkin has hold of Sha's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Sha manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
#SUB# Sha has left one of his arms exposed and Gerkin doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Sha screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Grant Gerkin!
