#R1# The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Yan blocks a head kick by Hammer.
Yan throws a series of punches but Hammer moves out of range. Hammer lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected. Hammer fails to land the takedown. Hammer tries to close the distance and clinch but Yan swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Yan seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter. Yan steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Hammer. That one must have hurt. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hammer throws a sloppy head kick and Yan moves out of range easily. Yan appears to be looking for a big counter. Yan lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

#TD# and Yan decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hammer's guard.#ES2# Hammer kicks Yan off and gets to his feet. A nice combination there by Yan.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Hammer is not content to let Yan control the position.#ES2# Hammer has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Yan is on him like a limpet, forcing Hammer back against the cage. Yan wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Hammer jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Yan walks away with a smile on his face. Hammer gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. #T2# Hammer looks for a takedown but Yan sprawls well. Petr Yan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnny Hammer.#TD# Yan closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. #ES2# Hammer manages to escape and get back to his feet! Hammer swinging wildly here.

#T3##TD# A momentary lapse in concentration from Hammer enables Yan to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Hammer manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Hammer keeping moving, preventing Yan from controlling successfully. Yan working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Yan working some strikes from top position. Hammer wants to stand but Yan is controlling the position. Yan trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Yan lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Yan is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. #T4# Yan postures up and lands a big shot to Hammer's brow. #ES2# Hammer is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Yan presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat. Yan is trying to force a seperation but Hammer has the dominant position.#BC2# Hammer's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.#TD# Yan shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Yan was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Yan prevents Hammer from escaping the position. Yan working the ground and pound from side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Yan is chipping away with strikes.
Hammer is pushing Yan's head away, looking to escape. Yan manages to hold on to the position though. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Yan counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Hammer pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Yan back to the cage. Hammer follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. Yan throws a low kick, looking for Hammer's leg but Hammer calmly moves out of range. Hammer is looking for the big counter here. Yan checks the leg kick nicely there.
No joy there for Hammer, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
#TD# Yan feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Yan working some strikes from top position. Yan tries to free his leg and advance position but Hammer is retaining full guard. Johnny Hammer has got the better of the ground game so far. Yan throws an elbow that misses. Hammer uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Yan's guard. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Yan throws a strike aimed at the side of Hammer's head but Hammer avoids it well. Yan is looking to take a break and control but Hammer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Hammer felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Yan is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Hammer is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Hammer wants to get back to his feet but Yan drags him back down.#T2# Yan throwing strikes but Hammer manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control! Yan tries to bench press Hammer off him but Hammer keeps the position. Yan is trying to escape and get back to his feet.#ES# Yan throws Hammer to one side and escapes! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Hammer is looking to take this fight into the clinch.#T3# Hammer stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hammer wants it to stay on the feet. Hammer lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected. Hammer with a lazy takedown attempt and Yan connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Yan changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hammer tries to avoid it but Yan manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hammer to the ground. Hammer escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. #TD# Yan fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hammer sprawls well initially but Yan persists and gets the takedown into half guard. #ES2# Hammer manages to escape and get back to his feet! Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Hammer shoots and misses and Yan counters with a nice uppercut. Hammer lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt. This has been an exciting period of action!#TD# Yan closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Hammer quickly recovers to half guard.#T4# Yan slips a nice elbow through Hammer's hands, connecting with Hammer's forehead. Hammer is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Yan scores with a couple of nice shots. Hammer wants to get back to his feet.

Petr Yan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hammer throws a head kick that misses. Yan is looking to counter the offense by Hammer and move into the clinch. Yan tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Hammer is able to avoid easily. Yan throws a series of punches but Hammer moves out of range. #T1# Hammer misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Yan here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.#SU# Yan stands up and beckons Hammer to his feet. Hammer fails in his attempt to clinch. #T4# Hammer fails with an attempt to clinch.
#TD# Hammer gets caught flat footed, as Yan shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Yan working some strikes from top position. Yan trying to control the position from guard on top but Hammer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. #ES2# Hammer manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage. Petr Yan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Johnny Hammer is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Yan wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

#R1# The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Yan takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Yan tries to score a power double leg takedown but Drnold sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Yan somewhat. Drnold tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Yan was well out of range. Poor timing from Drnold. Drnold fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Yan looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Yan misses with a double jab
#TD2# and Drnold counters with a shoot takedown. Yan fights it but they end up in guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Drnold content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Drnold working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Drnold with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Yan is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Drnold throwing strikes but missing. #T1# Drnold content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Drnold lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Yan trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Yan has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. Yan avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Drnold postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Drnold must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Drnold is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Drnold throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Yan works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Yan wants to stand but Drnold is controlling the position. Yan is breathing heavily. Drnold postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Drnold scoring with some ground and pound. Drnold gets to his feet and stands over Yan, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Yan felt that one! Drnold unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Yan from any more punishment!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! DeSoto fails to land with a series of punches.
Yan lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Yan moves out of range as DeSoto strikes. Yan on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Yan fails with the takedown. DeSoto lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected. No luck with that takedown attempt from Yan. Yan has been working on his balance at Desert Fitness & Training -13 Elites/1 Exceptional, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by DeSoto. DeSoto tries to clinch and Yan counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. DeSoto rushes Yan and presses him up against the cage. Some stalling of biblical proportions here from DeSoto. DeSoto lands a nice uppercut. Yan blocking some punches.

DeSoto fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Yan has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. DeSoto swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Let's hope that DeSoto has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Gudmundsson throws a nice looking combination but Yan bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Steve Gudmundsson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Gudmundsson stuffs the takedown.#TD2# Yan shoots in and bounces Gudmundsson off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Gudmundsson keeping moving, preventing Yan from controlling successfully. You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Yan dives in and grabs Gudmundsson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gudmundsson pushes down on Yan's head and hops out. Gudmundsson lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Cruz shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. It looked like Yan wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Yan is looking to counter the offense by Cruz and move into the clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
